RELISH is a series of submission-fueled print magazine releases paired with exhibitions celebrating unsung and pioneering creators, one city at a time. A collaboration between GRØSS Magazine and Ello.

These are some drawings I made that I consider to be self portraits. I took selfies of myself looking stupid through the Sephora app’s virtual makeup try-on and then illustrated the expressions on heads of elaborate, big hair.

The ways we interact with the world shapes the world, and the world shapes us. Photographer Lynae Cook photographs moments at times and in places that often go unnoticed, with the idea that by capturing pockets of life that are specific, we can explore shared experiences and stories that may go untold.
Madison Leiren grew up with Norwegian food, traditions, and fairy tales. “There were always a lot of stories about the old county in our family, and our houses were filled with trolls and paintings of the fjords.” It made a big impression on her as a little girl; she has always been intrigued by a world of mythical fantasy. Leiren is a huge fan of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, and she loves Viking history and legend.

Josh Manderville is a painter raised in the South King County suburbs. Far Side comic strips, MAD Magazine, Garbage Pail Kids, National Geographic, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and 1960’s Disney animation landscape artists like Eyvind Earle and Al Dempster have had a lasting influence on Josh’s developing style.
Painting for me is a thinking process, a way to engage in a kind of internal discourse. In my work, I deconstruct the human form. I am inspired by tattoos, unique color palettes, and the crisp line work of iconic mid-century cartoons. I continually strive for my paintings to show the celebration of life and what it means to be human.
