I’m excited to announce our brand-new games studio, Elodie, dedicated to building better cross-play games. I co-founded Elodie with my partner David Banks, the previous executive producer of League of Legends at Riot Games. David and I believe that games are intrinsically social and that playing with friends is the best path to enjoyable and memorable gaming experiences. Our mission is to connect gamers around the globe by creating games with deep co-op gameplay, endlessly engaging content, and uncompromised cross-play.
In our time at Riot Games, we worked tirelessly to help build League of Legends and launch it to a global audience. We engaged with the community to evolve and improve the player experience. Along the way, we were energized and uplifted by the stories players world-wide shared with us about the great experiences they had playing League with their friends. These stories touched us and reinforced in our minds that gaming is more than just entertainment, it’s an opportunity to deepen relationships with friends.
Gaming is more than just entertainment, it’s an opportunity to deepen relationships with friends.
We also came to understand that playing with friends isn’t always easy; barriers like platform, skill, location, and timing can all get in the way. To overcome these challenges we knew we had to take them head-on by creating games purpose-built to make playing with friends feel effortless. We started Elodie to do just that.
The biggest barrier for co-op play is platform.
The biggest barrier for co-op play is platform. Simply put, not everyone likes to game the same way, and most co-op games don’t support cross-play. That’s why every Elodie game will be designed and built for exceptional cross-play. At every step of implementation, and play-testing we’ll ensure that the player experience isn’t compromised on any platform, or any combination of platforms. This approach will become part of Elodie’s game-development DNA.
We’ll ensure that the player experience isn’t compromised on any platform, or any combination of platforms.
Creating a new approach to game development isn’t easy, so we’re grateful for the support of our partners Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and 1Up Ventures. We chose these partners because they share our excitement for bringing better shared gaming experiences to players everywhere, as well as their years of venture and industry experience.
We’ll also need the help of talented game developers from across the industry who share our vision. As developers ourselves, David and I know the value of a gratifying, healthy workplace. We are committed to making Elodie an inclusive environment where everyone can bring their best self to work and contribute to their full potential. We are approaching this goal with humility, curiosity, and an open mind. As we welcome developers to Elodie, we will also welcome their ideas on how we can better serve players, and succeed in our mission.
While we are taking on many challenges, we believe that our focus and clear mission will enable us to move quickly so we can get our game in the hands of players. We believe a game isn’t a game until players are playing it, and we’re here to build games. We look forward to sharing more about our approach to game development, our game, and our journey in the future.
Welcome to Elodie.
