We love challenging hackathon projects! This time the team tried to improve on old hackathon ideas, but also to create something new and interesting. Check out the projects below…but first, have a look at this one-minute video we made.

Vielen Games

A team of 13 EL-people createad a multiplayer turn-based game server with Android and iOS clients.

The biggest challenge was coordinating such a big team in a limited time. This would not be possible without writing down documentation for the server API prior to starting the hackathon. We used apiary.io for that. If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. It’s awesome.

Also worth noting is that the project has open REST API, so you will be able to write your own computer player for it or even a full-blown client app.

Vielen Games is currently going through internal alpha testing. It will be available for download from Google Play and App Store soon. Stay tuned!

elCommerce

We finished what we started at the previous hackathon. In total, 30 screens were prepared (version RWA + Mobile). You can download the project files for free on Behance (desktop + mobile). Our front-end developers will be working on the implementation for the Shoplo platform.

EL Pasher

On this hackathon we tried to improve the EL Pasher app. Here’s a list of changes for the famous Pasher project:

  • handling multiple instances of Pasher in one database, with one running application
  • using websockets instead of polling for live refreshing of content
  • auto-completion of restaurants by name
  • auto-completion of dishes for specific restaurant
  • removed the chat (no one really used it)
  • added new order status: executed, with the possibility of specifying the estimated time of delivery by the executor
  • added settings icon in the menu, currently the only setting being whether to show delivery cost divided between participants added to their food prices
  • added a placeholder encouraging user to add a new order when there are none
  • minor cosmetic changes

I’ll add that EL Pasher is used widely in our company to order food. Also, it has been the go to app for several other Polish companies.

SeedFu

Seed Fu is an attempt to once and for all solve the problem of inserting and maintaining seed data in a database. It uses a variety of techniques gathered from various places around the web and combines them to create what is hopefully the most robust seed data system around.

New version has brought a couple of important changes:

  • allow to seed data with id < 0 (fixing sequence value for PostgreSQL database)
  • allow to seed data on tables without primary key or with primary key
  • that has no sequence assigned
  • multiple documentation fixes

Trello Burndowns

Trello Burndowns is yet another Trello Burndown generator. It’s core feature is a pretty burndown chart. It generates burndowns based on the Scrum for Trello Chrome plugin. Users can sign in using their Trello account and generate a burndown based on the Board ID.
