I am very selective with books I read. First, the genre has to interest me. Then, the writing style has to be enticing. Finally, I need to feel accomplished after reading the book — i.e. having taken away something valuable from the content.

Today, I’ll share with you 4 books that I have read and liked:

1_ Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In

Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead

It wasn’t difficult for me to relate to the perspective of this book. Writing from her own experiences, Sandberg definitely inspired me to take the lead, and speak up more. One takeaway from this book is about mentorship. I haven’t given much thought to mentorship until this book.

2_ Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point

The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference

Very intricate writing and analysis, very fast-moving concepts. I love how Gladwell tied everything together at the end, and also smartly interwoven events and examples throughout the book.

3_ Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

Definitely a go-to book when you need some encouragement to push you on. This book resonates with me in many ways — the creativity aspect, the character of the author, the relentlessness, moments of writer’s block, etc. I also adore the clever use of personification and metaphors to illustrate her points.

4_ Nir Eyal’s Hooked

Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products

I sought help from this book when building my first startup. The concept described in the book was easy to understand. However, the valuable part is to apply the concept to your own startup idea or product. It helps you to get down to the roots and teaches you about building products that stick with people.
