With alumni like Amitabh Bachchan and Kabir Khan, Kirori Mal College is considered to be one of the finest colleges of the North Campus circuit of Delhi University. Surrounded by other known colleges, with its back gate opening right into the loud and bustling Kamla Nagar, KMC has a sprawled out campus. The lush green Ashoka Lawn at the entrance adjacent to the library lawn swarming with students, a shabby canteen with mouth-watering warm samosas, and of course the relatively less populated sports complex, surround the main structure of the college.

When I first walked into the campus for admissions, I remember feeling intimidated by the iconic red brick walls of the University. Little did I know, I would find them etched in the photo gallery of my phone so distinctly. It has been one year with Kirori Mal College, and it has been a very interesting experience. I’m enrolled in B.A Programme, pursuing two of my favourite subjects together — English Literature and Political Science. Coming with the ideal aspirations of attending classes regularly and focusing on academics, it was eye-opening to figure out the culture of Delhi University.

It was refreshing to see both students and the faculty engrossed in various societies and clubs of the college. Going to formal interviews of various societies that I had applied to enthusiastically with my friends and exploring different facets of the college in the first month itself was pretty amusing. From the almost theatrical and aggressive student body elections to the vibrant and lively pride parades, KMC showcased everything DU had to offer.

Studying at Kirori Mal College, making friends with people from all over the country is truly wholesome experience. The little things like travelling in the E-rickshaw from the Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station to the college with red brick walled structures blurring past you, hurriedly rushing to the canteen to have warm samosas or bread pakoras during lunch, sitting idly in the library lawn with a novel or basking in the sun in the Ashoka Lawn during winters, make up a beautiful college experience.

The back gate allows you to wander down the streets of Kamla Nagar, filled with everything you wish to look for, from reading materials to amazing food. Small eateries like Bistro would make you fall in love with hazelnut coffees in winters and iced teas in summers. Kirori Mal College is a perfect blend of academic and social facets of life. It has only been one year but KMC and its lively atmosphere have moulded me holistically and given me unforgettable memories to cherish.
