Ever imagined what it would be like having a hotel as your college campus? Yes, I pursued MSc. in Computer Science from the international university — South Asian University (SAU), which is functioning from Akbar Bhawan, Chanakyapuri in Delhi; Akbar Bhawan was previously a lavish hotel but is now housing SAU as well as the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs!

This international university, established by the SAARC countries, offers various post-graduation courses in diverse fields. Studying with people coming from across 8 south Asian countries, getting to know about their cultures and backgrounds at a campus located in a building that previously functioned as a luxurious hotel, was indeed a unique experience. Specializing in post-grad courses, the academics here at SAU is very research-oriented. The professors are simply amazing, the infrastructure is extraordinary and the quality of the canteen food is just awesome!

Clubs have been formed by students around fields like art, sports and even the LGBTQ community; there is also a badminton court inside the campus. A sports week is also organized in the Nehru Park, located right in front of the campus. despite not being a sportsman, I still remember how I participated in tug-of-war and my team was a runner up! The annual SAUfest is also an awaited 2-day event, filled with amazing performances, good food and late night partying.

Interacting with people from different countries has really impacted my perspective positively. Casual conversations in the lab, wandering around Yashwant Palace nearby, eating at the Safdarjung Railway canteen and the statehouses around embassies; it was a wholesome experience. From celebrating festivals of different countries to showcasing their culture, everyone got to express themselves here; everyone felt at home.

I’ve loved the two years of my post grad here, from befriending different people and learning new things to sitting in my favorite spot — the beautiful garden in my campus. It has been a unique journey, one which I will cherish throughout my life.
