Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru

On 1st June 2019, as I entered the premises of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru, who would have thought that this hashtag would etch in my heart forever. Life at a B-school is undoubtedly a hectic one- with all the assignments, projects, committees, clubs and events going on and these 2 years are enough to either make or break a person.

My initial days at SIBM-B were more or less on the same lines. It felt hard to manage all the things at once and I still remember the days when I used to enter my room, I would sleep without even having the energy to change my clothes. But now when I look back at the one year that I have spent in SIBM-B I can feel a drastic change in myself. SIBM-B has helped me to evolve myself and today two things that I will be surely taking away from SIBM would be Time Management and Leadership skills.

When I talk of time management skills, how can I forget about the morning lectures which started at 9 and how no one in the class would have had breakfast and we would eagerly wait for the clock to strike 10:15 so that in the next 15-minute break we can go to the mess and get the energy to toil till 5 pm. Being from North India, I missed paranthas, puris and the mouth watering Cholle Bhature but all that I could have was Dosa, Sambhar, Rasam and Idli. It is rightly said, if you have the will you can find a way. Thankfully my will helped me to find my way to North Indian food in the form of Sitara restaurant (my savior).

During weekdays, you will find a Symbian either in the reading room preparing for a quiz or in the canteen doing an assignment or project with Maggie in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. It’s only during the weekends and only if we are lucky enough that we get a chance to put our feet outside the Laxman Rekha of our college. Otherwise you will find us in a badminton court or playing table tennis.

It has been rightly said that when you join a B-school you come out as a totally different person. The same thing I can feel after completing one year in SIBM Bangalore. From an introvert person to speaking to a crowd through Toastmasters club and to organizing events by being a part of Research Committee, I have imbibed essential leadership skills. Apart from 10 committees in college we have various clubs that give a big boost to your passion (Jazza- Dramatics club, Saaz- Music club and Jhankar- Dance club) and clubs pertaining to different specializations- Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Operations that help one to master their chosen fields.

The best part of the college is that it is student driven. All the fests in college be it Euphoria, Utthan or Revelation give students an opportunity to not only showcase their management skills but also help in the completion of an essential component in a managements students life - Networking.

From preparing for quizzes to completing projects just before the deadline, SIBM has become a family where we don’t only help each other but also celebrate every occasion together like the smashing birthday parties in the basement or celebrating cricket match victories in the common room.
Life at SIBM-B can be described in these 3 words - work, fun and sleep but the irony is you can only choose any two!
