The Mystery of Maison Ware

We conversed with electronic producer Maison Ware. Short sharp, and precise was the nature of his response, leaving nothing but a veil of mystery. With releases on mau5trap and Armada Music, Maison Ware’s only in first gear with a long straight road ahead of him.

How did music production start for you?

For as long as I’ve been listening to music, I’ve had a soundtrack in my head accompany most moments in my life. Music production is my attempt to extract and record that soundtrack.

What aspect do you find the most challenging?

Recreating the sounds in my head with synthesizers.

How do you describe your sound?

Relentless, derelict, and above all, deliberate.

What are your favourite tools for creating?

Time, space, and Ableton Live. And distance. A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.

How do you get yourself out of a creative block?

I clean my room, literally and figuratively.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Ask me again when I become my older self.

What artists are inspiring you at the moment

Nicolas Winding Refn, Ludwig Gorranson, Denis Villeneuve

What have you been working on?

I scored a film for Drake that premiered at Sundance this year.

Final words of wisdom for aspiring artists?

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

Where can we find out more about you?

I’ll find you.
