Our Favorite Free Plugins Vol.3
Alright, you should know the drill by now, but just in case you don’t:
Once a month we dig through the back alleys of the internet to try, test and eventually find the best free plugins and VSTs. Then, we write about them and tell you where to go get them for yourself so you can add them into your sessions and take your tracks to the next level!
Alright, let’s get stuck in.
1. Ample Sound Cloudrum
The beautiful melodies of a handpan, without the need for dreads and #vanlife. The Cloudrum is a seriously unique and relaxing Steel Tongue Drum VST with a range of 3 octaves. Produce wonderful tones and add a bit of color to any genre simply and easily. Or do what we did and lose track of time messing around with this beautiful VST.
2. Dead Duck Deducktion
You can try and ignore the fun name of this VST but you can’t ignore how good a VST this is. DDD’s elegant interface features a 32-voice, subtractive synth with powerful options beneath its simple exterior. Its comprehensive LFO controls and modulation matrix are perfect for creating evolving soundscapes.
3. Full Bucket FB-3300
Full Bucket is an amazingly accurate recreation of the now very rare, 1970s Korg PS-3300. The controls might not be as friendly looking as some other VSTs out there, but those willing to spend some time experimenting and getting to know their Full Bucket will be greatly rewarded.
4. Muon Tau Bassline
The Muon Tau Bassline is modelled after the Roland TB-303, the synth that gave birth to so many new genres and redefining others. This one is for fans of Daft Punk, Acid House and other cool noises — that includes you! Go get it.
5. Plogue Alter/Ego
Real time voice synthesis done really well. Choose from English or Japanese a preset vocal souds, input your phrase and boom: Vocoded vocals straight away. We think we saved the best til last on this one — a must try!
And that’s it. Now go and start creating!
