From Socrates to the Stoics, Virtue is stressed as the dominant and necessary part of living a good-life.

There are variations in this formula — for example, Aristotle thinks that auxiliary goods are good things that add to happiness and the Stoics think that auxiliary goods don’t add to a Virtuous life.
