Today, more than ever — the Internet of Things is changing our lives. The COVID pandemic has only accelerated this trend, and is uprooting traditions that were founded centuries or just decades ago. We have a chance to reform the inflated educational system and dramatically reduce costs through online education. Artificial intelligence has the potential for life-saving changes through intelligent transportation, healthcare innovations, and improved accessibility. Already, the internet has reduced inequalities in developing nations: artificial intelligence could usher in a new era of opportunities.

However, the same technological innovations have a dark side. Recent trends to connect everything to the internet have resulted in countless vulnerabilities that could have never been imagined just a decade ago. Vehicles can now be compromised remotely, as cheaply as hacking credit cards. But with more disastrous physical consequences (as I have shown in a research article). Hackers are already taking advantage of poorly secure cyber-physical interfaces as seen recently in the Colonial pipeline ransomware that crippled U.S. oil infrastructures (See my recent article). Privacy and ethical concerns abound around the (sometimes private) data shared for decision making by autonomous agents. And how comfortable are we as a society in outsourcing life and death decisions to computers (even if on average computers make better decisions than humans)?

What’s in this newsletter?

I offer an integrated, diverse perspective on the impacts of increasingly connected societies. These are some non-exhaustive themes:

  • The impacts of data, connectivity, and AI in our everyday lives
  • Cybersecurity, ethics, and privacy
  • How technology is transforming education
  • How to become proficient in multiple new areas

Why here?

If you’ve made it this far, you are probably interested in the newsletter. But you may still question why to get your information from here? After all, the Internet makes information extremely accessible, and often it is hard to make decisions of where to invest your time. And your most valuable asset is your time. I will take you through my journey in revealing the complex interconnections between society and technology.

Over the past 5 years, I’ve become a subject matter expert in multiple relevant topics.

Cybersecurity: My research on the impacts of cybersecurity incidents on the society has been featured by Forbes and BBC.

Data Science: I was selected for the prestigious Data Incubator fellowship, and my capstone project was selected for pitching to industry partners.

Data and Science Blogger: Top 50 science writer in Medium, posts featured in Towards Data Science.

Content Creation: I’ve created videos for top educational companies like Pearson.

For subscribers: as I gain expertise and grow in other areas, so will you. I will also update you on my regular posts on technical data science related topics in Medium.

Note: For more features, please follow me on my SubStack newsletter, which includes the same content as in this newsletter + more! And please share the word as this is a small but growing effort ❤
