Ataraxia

“Ataraxia is a Greek term used by Pyrrho and subsequently Epicurus for a lucid state of robust equanimity, characterized by ongoing freedom from distress and worry.” — Wikipedia

There are a variety of ways of arriving at such a state. They mostly add up to not being attached to things having to be any particular way.

Just avoid deciding for certain what something IS. Avoid deciding that some things are inherently good, and others are inherently bad.

Don’t let your inner peace depend on any particular outcome.

You don’t really know what things really are, or what really will happen. So, don’t pretend that you do, and try to control everything so that you’ll be proven right.

Keep things open. Deal directly with uncertainty. Question everything.

This does not in any way mean that everything is grey and meaningless and and all the same, and unknowable and random and unfair on top of it, and then you die. That’s if you didn’t understand a word of this.

Pay attention. Pick the options that are most desirable and sensible. Seek knowledge and pleasure. Go deeper. Try to understand and experience. Just don’t get attached to ideas.
