For some of us, working from home was a normal part of our everyday lives. Many companies were flexible and allowed their staff to discern when it was appropriate to work in the office or remotely. But for the majority of people, what was normal just a month ago has quickly become a distant reality.

As meetings move to online video platforms and trivia nights become Google Forms, there’s a good chance many people are feeling more disconnected — and lonelier — than ever. In January, before the whole world was experiencing social distancing, a national survey found that 79% of Gen Z, 71% of millennials and 50% of baby boomers feel lonely. And did you know that people who do not feel connected to others are more likely to catch a cold, experience depression, develop heart disease, have lower cognitive function and live a shorter life?

As doctors and scientists rush to understand how the virus works, the rest of us must remember to focus on our mental health — which includes staying social while social distancing. Below, find our team’s tips for staying connected from inside your house.
