Job board apps can be used for a multitude of tasks when searching for new opportunities. Job apps allow you to create and upload resumes, organize searches, and some even provide a platform for you to interact with hiring managers via in-app chats. When using mobile applications to search and apply for jobs, it is important to keep a few things in mind.

Make a good first impression. It only takes a hiring manager a few seconds to scan your resume and determine if they are interested in moving forward with you as a candidate. You need to quickly and efficiently show that you’ve got what it takes to do the job. It is also essential to convey that you have the soft skills and personality to fit in with the team. You might consider speaking about your professional passions and relatable hobbies.

A LinkedIn profile is a must! To stand out in the crowd, make sure you have a professional profile photo, detailed headline, and clear outline of skills and experience. Work on expanding your network; connect with classmates, work colleagues, professionals working in your field or in an area you are interested in exploring. LinkedIn is also a great way to find mentors as well as search and apply for jobs.

Identify the correct keywords for your job search. Many job apps use smart algorithms when matching candidates to job openings. The keywords you add to your mobile app profile and resume should illustrate relevant experience and skills. Using keywords that are included in job postings will increase your chances of connecting with employers who are looking for candidates with your skill set. For instance, if you are a Mobile Growth Manager specializing in executing campaigns across paid and unpaid channels mention that under the skills section of your resume.

Create job search notifications. Some job apps allow you to receive push notifications, through the app, or email notification that include relevant job opportunities. On the Indeed app, users can select “Indeed Match” under the “My Subscriptions” tab. Enabling this app function allows users to receive job recommendation emails. These recommendations are curated based on the resume that the user has uploaded or created on the app platform.

Check the mobile app often. One of the great things about job apps is that they are easily accessible on your mobile device, which makes it simple to stay engaged with the job search and application process. If you are an active job seeker, it is imperative that you keep a close eye on the status of your applications and job notifications. App monitoring and punctuality are especially important for apps that provide an in-app chat function. Hiring managers will appreciate prompt responses from potential candidates.

Remain professional! Speaking of in-app chats — although you are using a job app on your device, you need to remain professional. Your correspondence with employers should be precise. Use proper grammar and punctuation, pay attention to details, and be accurate about your experience and skills.

Indeed Mobile App

Indeed.com has been rated the #1 job searching site in the world. With job listings in over 60 countries, 28 languages, and over 2 million daily active users they must be doing something right!

I tweeted Indeed to ask which app feature they would recommend to all job seekers. According to Indeed, the “mobile app allows job seekers to create Job Alerts so that they’re notified when new jobs pop up. We definitely recommend that job seekers use this to stay up to date as new jobs are posted to the site! ”

Over 65% of their traffic is attributed to mobile app users. The Indeed mobile app offers users the ability to personalize their profile, apply, and research job opportunities. A key app feature that I found interesting is the Indeed Apply function, which allows job seekers to apply to a job from their mobile app in second. Users can submit a saved Indeed resume or upload a traditional resume file. Indeed does recommend building your resume on their platform to ensure that it can be searched for keywords.

Indeed mission is to “put job seekers first, giving them free access to search for jobs, post resumes, and research companies.”
