This Marquette University course (aka #ADPR4300) is taught by Dennis Jenders & Abi Gilman.

It examines the strategic use, impact and implications of Emerging and Social Media as it relates to marketing and communications.

Common platforms that we will explore include social networks (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, SnapChat), blogs (Wordpress), microblogs (Twitter, Tumblr), rich media platforms (YouTube, Flickr, Pinterest), content platforms (Slideshare, Medium), social news sites (Digg, BuzzFeed, Reddit), and more.

These popular social media channels share most, if not all, of the following characteristics: participation, openness, transparency, conversation, community and connectedness.

With these emerging networks and technologies we find that people are often producers who engage in both the production and consumption of content. We have moved from a broadcast culture to communications that are one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many.

The world continues to change as do the networks and channels we have to communicate, collaborate, and connect with others. Embrace change and be curious. These two traits will serve you well, regardless of your intended profession.

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change. - Charles Darwin
