Yesterday, (ISC)² announced the election results for 2018 Board of Directors, including the inclusion of Emergent founder and CEO Dr. Earl Crane.

“Industry and government need cybersecurity experts to safeguard our systems, and the (ISC)² is a critical component of building that cyber defense ecosystem,” said Dr. Crane, “I am privileged to give back to the community”

In his profile for the election, Dr. Crane outlined the challenge of using data to drive change in the continually-evolving field of cybersecurity risk management. His company Emergent provides a second-line-of-defense capability to Chief Information Security Officers and Chief Risk Officers to contextualize their varied cyber and operational data feeds into a simple view of their enterprise’s digital risk.

He underscored the important work of (ISC)² saying, “Cybersecurity is critical for commerce, innovation, and national security.” He continued, “I’m excited to be part of such a respected and long-standing credentialing organization to help to continue to build our cyber workforce.”

As a part of the (ISC)² Board, he has identified three key areas he would like to emphasize as career development, education, and membership.

About Dr. Crane

Dr. Crane served the President as Director for Federal Cybersecurity Policy on the White House National Security Council and was Chief Security Architect and Director for Cybersecurity Strategy at the Department of Homeland Security. He instructs at Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College and CISO Certificate program. He earned his Ph.D. from George Washington University, a Masters of Information System Management at Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also a Senior Cybersecurity Fellow at the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law, University of Texas at Austin.
