Emergent to showcase AI Digital Risk Management platform in partnership with George Washington University

Emergent Network Defense was selected as one of the nation’s Best University Startups by the National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2). Emergent will join 39 other startups in showcasing their technology at the University Startups Conference Demo Day April 18, 2017.

Emergent is representing George Washington University. CEO and founder, Dr. Earl Crane conceived the company’s core swarming risk algorithms while working on his his Ph.D. in Engineering Management and Information Security. “Centralized management simply doesn’t scale to today’s distributed enterprises,” said Dr. Crane. “As the Director for Cyber Strategy and the Department of Homeland Security, and later as the Director for Federal Cyber Policy at the White House, I saw first-hand the challenges of securing large-scale distributed systems. This gave me the inspiration to look at natural resilient systems — like ants — that are incredibly anti-fragile with no centralized control. It was those emergent properties that became the central thesis for our Instinct Engine product.”

Emergent’s Instinct Engine™ allows companies to get ahead of hackers by predicting where they are most likely to be attacked tomorrow. Using advanced machine learning and swarming AI risk algorithms, it explores hundreds of thousands of loss scenarios — using real-time network data — to identify the cyber intrusions that could create the biggest impacts.

“We are excited to be selected by NCET2 out of all the great companies coming out of academia today,” said Dr. Crane. “I am also proud to stand with my fellow entrepreneurs in applying the thought-leadership from academia to solving tomorrow’s problems.”

About Emergent and the Instinct Engine™

Emergent Network Defense, Inc. provides a Digital Risk Management solution to today’s digital enterprises by identifying, measuring, and distributing cyber risk ownership.

The Instinct Engine™ uses a biological ant-based swarming approach to identify the most likely attack paths to a company’s greatest risks — those that cause the most damage — so organizations can reduce risk before an incident happens. It enables business owners to understand the amount of cyber risk to which they are exposed and for which they are responsible in a dollar-based impact amount. This enables the Chief Information Security Officer or Chief Risk Officer to act quickly; reducing cyber risk exposure. It also answers new regulatory requirements for an executive board-established and monitored cyber risk appetite.
