Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, recently signed a new contract that makes him the highest paid player in the National Football League.

The contract that was signed gives the quarterback $140 million over the next four seasons with a $65 million signing bonus.

Of the $140 million that Wilson signed for, $107 million of it is guaranteed.

Wilson’s large contract sets a marker and negatively affects other players in the league.

There is only so much money that each team can spend on their players. They cannot pay every single player the same amount that they paid Wilson.

The Seahawks had to make some tough decisions like deciding who to cut from the team after the deal with Wilson was confirmed.

Seattle favorite Doug Baldwin and Safety Kam Chancellor were both cut from the Seahawks roster soon after the big contract with Wilson.

Wilson’s contract was not the only reason for the recent cuts from the team.

Because of Wilson’s new deal and the other big contracts with essential players for the team like Tyler Lockett and Bobby Wagner, there just was not enough money to go to the other players who deserved it.

Earl Thomas recently signed a contract with the Baltimore Ravens of $55 million for four years with $32 million guaranteed.

The safety deserves that money and was not going to get it from the Seahawks.

It is said that Baldwin is retiring, though he has not yet released an official retirement statement.

Baldwin’s previous injury paved the way for his upcoming retirement. He is not someone who wants to just go to another team to play. The player is a Seahawk and he does not want that to change.

With all of the changes that are going on in preparation for the Seattle Seahawks’ 2019 season, the team is going to come out strong and be very successful.
