Even though the event has come to a successful conclusion, the bells and whistles are still ringing in our ears and we’d like to share the sound of Open Source contributions with everyone!

So, why did we organize such an event?

HacktoberFest,as it is, a month long celebration of Open Source, meant to us that we can spark enthusiasm and motivate the young minds out there into contributing to OSPs, through and throughout the event.

We explained to the newcomers:

  • What is Open Source.
  • Why learn version control systems.
  • Why you should start using GitHub?
  • How to get started with Open Source.
  • Why contributing to OSPs is important.

The Gist of the affair!

Laptops, Learning and Life.

All in all, we were quite successful in accomplishing our goal of making the newcomers as well as the acquaintances push their boat out! Although we were a bit tight on the time duration, we managed to squeeze in the essentials and deliver it to the attendees very effectively. At the end, we saw happy and content faces who would continue their journey in the Open Source contributions.

The Guys who Guided!

Mr. Sunny Batabyal Senior Software Engineer, MindFire solutions.

Being the first to deliver, Mr. Sunny made sure that he picked up the momentum and moral of the attendees, so that they can get familiar with the whole setup. Along with introducing the concept of HacktoberFest with finesse, he also played a vital role in handling the Git & GitHub workshop.

Miss Siwani AgrawalGoogle Summer of Code 2019 at AOSSIE.

Having completed GSOC, it was expected of her to inspire others sitting in the event to dive into Open Source and build a better future. Her lively and effortless delivery of her GSOC story surely attracted a lot of awe from the attendees, especially the girls. She also urged them to start contributing through internships like Outreachy, GSSOC, GSOC, etc.

Mr. Aftab Alam Associate Lead, MindFire Solutions.

Being the main man in carrying on the proceedings of the Git & GitHub workshop along with Mr. Sunny, he stood his stage for the whole time while making sure that no attendee gets left behind and pushes the boat out with everyone. His presence really pumped up the workshop and its usefulness.

Swags — The cherry on the cake!

A little bit of fun factor is always needed to make learning easy and exciting. Well, for HacktoberFest’19, the cool swags which our sponsors sent us, did the thing. Attendees were more than happy and excited when we were distributing the stickers and goodies to them during the Git & GitHub workshop, the enthusiasm was clearly reflecting on their faces.

A little spicing on the dishes surely enhances the taste!

Our Team Members — Our Backbone

Sourav Kumar Nanda : The person who contacted all the sponsors and collaborators, and was the main driver in arranging the event.

Sahil Kumar Nanda : He handled the event from the backstage and set up the event from the very start, maintaining the flow of things smoothly.

Ankit, Alok and Akash : The developers of our HacktoberFest website, who did it from scratch. Also, they played an important part in organizing as well as winding up the event.

Abhinav Prakash : Besides contacting one of the speakers for their talk, he was very helpful to the attendees and made sure their problems were fixed.

Soumya Ranjan Lenka : He was also very active in the organizing team and helped the event build up and go through the whole process.

Sk. Ayaz : He is our Design Saviour, the Storyteller who converts his thoughts into pixels. The amazing illustration you saw right when you entered into this blog was his creation. Besides this, he also played a great role in on spot management.

Danish Khan : He was an integral persona in the on-spot management of the event.

ShahRukh Alam: His presence was very positive among the attendees as he was very helpful and responsive the whole time.

Mallik Aziz Parvez : An event is incomplete without photographs, and he’s the one who is to be credited for the awesome pictures you see here.

Raj Shankar Tiwary : The content writer of the team, responsible for covering the event and presenting it to everyone in this blog.

Without these dedicated and patient people, it would have been really impossible to take the attendees and the event to the finishing line. A moment of appreciation and acknowledgement is definitely needed for these awesome personalities.

Representative of the Zairza community delivering his words.

A huge thanks to our collaborators, Zairza community of CET, Bhubaneswar, for joining hands with us to organize the event.

Also, they promoted their own project, Bench-Routes, which is a highly scalable routes-benchmarking, monitoring, and route-network analysis tool. It monitors the routes of the application and analyses the network pipe between the server-client.

End Note

Now that the event has been successfully conducted for the second time in a row, we are high on our belief that we’ll be able to do it the following year as well and improvise on the shortcomings to get better with time. As our community, Emisha, keeps growing over the days, we’ll be continuing our efforts to build a great framework of technology-driven environment around us.

October isn’t over yet, and neither is Hacktoberfest! So keep contributing to learn and grab some cool swags along with that awesome T-shirt!
