The goddess Athena

(Surprisingly, not many of us are born from our father’s forehead)

Zeus was angry again. He had just heard a prophecy that his wife, Metis would bear him a child so strong that the child would overcome him.

Metis was a Titan. She was the mother of wisdom and deep thought. When she heard Zeus coming, she could sense he was angry, of course He was always acting as if he was standing on hot coals.

“METIS!” Zeus yelled, Metis instantly turned herself into a fly. (Do not try this at home) Zeus thundered into the room. (literally) Lightning bolt in hand. He caught sight of the fly, he knew it was Metis. He grabbed the tiny insect and swallowed it.

Metis was introduced to her new home, Zeus’s stomach. Little did Zeus know he was too late. Metis was already pregnant with her daughter Athena.

One day, Zeus experienced a terrible headache, he groaned and winced. He begged for help, then all of the sudden the goddess Athena sprang from Zeus’s forehead in full battle armor.

“AHHHHHHHHH!” Zeus screamed in pain, (You would too if you had a goddess in full battle armor spring from your forehead) Even for a god, that hurt.

“Nice to meet you”. said Athena. Golden ichor (The blood of the gods) Sprang from Zeus’s forehead. So, the goddess Athena was born. She would soon become a powerful and respected goddess amongst the Greeks.

Later Athena would go on to be the goddess of, wisdom, courage, civilization, strategic warfare, mathematics, inspiration, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, skill, and law and justice.

Her Roman name is Minerva and she is the Patron of Athens. Her counterpart is Ares.
