  1. Lucha Libre.

I had no idea what to expect from Lucha Libre, but I’ve never seen anything like it. It was basically an eccentric choreographed wrestling match with a range of bizarre ‘wrestlers’: a 60/70 year old man who was clearly once a legend but is clearly 10 years out of the game, a buff wrestler with a silver sequinned cape, a Japanese man with bleached hair, someone who couldn’t have been taller than 5 foot…all in all an eclectic mix. We scoffed our faces with Doritos and popcorn and settled in to watch the show.

2. Roma Norte.

I fell a little bit in love with Roma Norte when we stayed there. Tree lined streets, lovely coffee shops and bars – I could see myself living there! We spent a Sunday strolling around the streets, passing street-side taco joints and the distinctive smell of maiz tacos on the hot plate.

We went to Galería OMR & Museo del Objeto which are both free with changing exhibitions. Galería OMR is in a beautiful space with high ceilings, cement walls a huge windows.

3. Food & Drink.

Mexico City has a hell of a lot of good restaurants, particularly in Roma Norte/La Condesa area. Here are some goodies:

Paramo. A trendy taco joint with twinkly lights filled with the coolest kids in CDMX. Creative tacos (cheese and mango sauce) and delicious cocktails, my favourite cocktail was the Mezcal, Campari and grapefruit number. It was packed on a Monday night, enough said.

Lalo. Famous for Mexican breakfast I tried Chiliqulas which was basically tortilla chips covered in green salsa with a couple of eggs on top.

El Palenquito. Delicious Mezcal cocktails.

Tacos Don Juan. Proper local tacos, we couldn’t translate 90% of the menu and Tom ended up ordering some very questionable and slimy chicharron (Mexican delicacy of pork rinds).

Dosis Cafe. Lovely coffee (and gorgeous mugs!).

Churrería El Moro. 4 mega churros dipped in cinnamon sugar for 20 pesos (75p). Brilliant.

La Pitahaya Vegana. Non-greasy vegan tacos, plus they’re beautiful.

4. Chapultepec Castle.

A castle on a hill with lovely panoramic views of Mexico City. I have to admit I enjoyed the views and the castle itself more than the museums content, there were also some mega butterflies!

5. Central.

We spent an afternoon walking around central to see Palacio de Bellas Artes, Zocalo and the National Palace.

We visited Mexico City in September and November 2018.
