We have all known that gaming is a huge industry. The industry itself is worth over USD 120 billion and is expected to grow at a steady rate of 10.3% annually over the next 5 years (Source: Newzoo). Games are entering into many parts of life, not only as a kind of entertainment but also as a useful tool in assisting education.

But to players, there exist many problems in traditional video games.

If you have played game, you might have experienced these:

  • You own a legendary monster, which developers claim to be only 10 in the world. No one but only game developers know this for sure. There might be 15, 20, or more — you never know.
  • The game is suddenly hacked and now there are hundreds of your legendary monster in the game. Nobody values it like before and the value drops.
  • Your strongest, favourite character gets nerfed. Yesterday it was worth over a thousand dollars, and today it’s nearly worthless.
  • Game studio announces closure in a month. All your characters become worthless and will be gone. There is nothing you can do.
  • Game developers change plans that they will not release your long-awaited features. There is nothing you can do.

These are the major issues in traditional games. Players’ efforts and hard-earned money spent in the game are not guaranteed to return monetary rewards.

Blockchain and implications to future of gaming

Do you know that blockchain can potentially solve all of these problems by giving players more power? Here are the reasons:

1. No centralized authority. Data on blockchain is maintained forever and there is no centralized authority owning it. Even if the game developers stop supporting the game, your characters will not be deleted. It also means that developers just cannot boost or nerf your characters as they wish. Your digital assets are immune to external influence.

2. True ownership of digital assets. Your in-game digital assets will be tokenized and stored in your wallet. They are also call ERC-721 tokens in technical term. You can then transfer those tokens to anyone at your free will outside the game.

3. Blockchain Interoperability. Anyone can tap into the data stored in blockchain (including characters, items, …) and develop other applications using them. It also means a game can incorporate other games’ characters into its world. This empowers the community to contribute content to the game and opens lots of opportunities for inter-game cooperation.

Imagine if you have a super cool idea of a mini-game for a game you are playing, you can utilize existing characters in the game to bring your ideas to life (given you are allowed to use their intellectual properties), without having to re-draw all those characters from scratch. And who knows your game might be even more popular than the original one.

4. Verified scarcity and protected value: This element is a result of the “no centralized authority”. As no one can influence data stored on blockchain, you can be sure that the scarcity of your special characters always follow a known rule. Such rule is public for everyone to read. If the game is so good that it become very popular, the value of your digital assets will appreciate accordingly.

Providing these benefits, we believe more players will gradually adapt to playing blockchain games. We have seen a number of blockchain games successfully build good-size communities. We see this as a positive signal for the increasing popularity of blockchain games in the near future.

Having said that, we cannot ignore the arguments about the user experience in blockchain games

At the same time, we also hear some statements criticising blockchain’s scalability, such as:

The user experience in a blockchain game is not very smooth. Every transaction takes on average 10 to 15 seconds to complete and players need to pay a very high gas price. We always see players going away when gas price is high.

This is totally correct, but note that blockchain technology is still at its very early stage!

Bitcoin was created by Satoshi Nakamoto 9 years ago in 2009, and Ethereum was only introduced to the world by Vitalik Buterin in 2015.

Remember that the Internet took over 40 years to reach the current state and not until 20 years since it was first invented that it picked up and thrived. This cycle will be shorter for blockchain for sure given our technology and knowledge have been advancing tremendously compared to the early days of the internet.

The year of 2017 have seen over USD 6 billion raised from ICO from more than 800 projects, 6 times higher than the total funds raised from ICO in 2016.

Many projects are working to tackle the scalability issue. EMONT Alliance team is partnering with some projects to work out the solutions for the blockchain game scene.

We also observe certain successes in the blockchain game scene over the last few months. The most sensational title Cryptokitties made in total USD 12 million in sales over a few weeks after launch.

Such success with a simple concept of collecting and breeding digital cats suggest that there are many opportunities for game developers to capitalize on in the blockchain game scene.

This is where the world is heading to and we have chance to leave our mark. If you are game developers or you are running a game studio, connect with us. Let’s join forces and together we will revolutionize the gaming industry!

We have built 2 in-house games: Etheremon and EMONT Frenzy.

You will not need to do everything from scratch in developing your games.

We are not only selling you this idea, we have done it ourselves and we believe this will work for us as game developers. Let us give you some brief idea about our games:

1. Etheremon

Etheremon was launched in Dec 2017, and has been always among the top 5 Game Dapps since then (Source: dappradar.com).

Etheremon is the first to introduce advanced battle play with dynamic game modes to players to enjoy, including Gym, Practice, Casual Battle, Rank Battle, Adventure. In over 4 months since launch, Etheremon has seen over 120,000 game battles played.

We will also bring Etheremon to Virtual Reality (VR) world and our players are very excited to see their monsters battling in 3D in the future

2. EMONT Frenzy

EMONT Frenzy was launched in June 2018. This is an easy and fun game where players play a role of a fish and try to survive in the ocean. Fish can collect EMONT in the ocean or attack smaller fish to grow up in size. Small fish need to beware of the bigger fish’ jaw.

We are lucky to have a super active and supportive community, coming from many different countries where we are also building up resources to grow our community further.

Your community will be excited with better games coming to the blockchain. They are also very supportive when it comes to providing feedback to help you develop roadmap for your games.

Joining EMONT Alliance, here is how we will work together

  • You will use our SDK to quickly integrate to our system. You will not need to spend resources to build your blockchain team.
  • You can tap right into our community who are very passionate about blockchain games.
  • We are partnering with other companies working on scalability solutions, as such, you can leverage of the partnerships that we have built.

Thank you for reading! We are so lucky that you have found out about us via this post. Let’s take action and get to work right away. The actions we take today will produce great results tomorrow.
