Technical or human interaction

In our every day work, we get to choose how we interact with the people around us.

We can act technical, maybe file a complaint, tell it to their face and create a formal reprimand meeting where we go over, point by point, by the book.

Or we can be human, we ask what’s going on to discover what’s on their mind. Maybe we try to understand their perspective or consider there might be something that has nothing to do with this situation that’s bothering them.

One way technically fixes the situation, but it doesn’t necessarily fix the problem and it doesn’t consider the human involved. The other reaches out with compassion, making friends.

We have a choice with every interaction. And the great news is that we can practice often and get better.
