The last story, I was talking about how to interpret our emotion. What is the next step in knowing other people’s feelings? It is managing their emotion. To become a person with high emotional intelligence, we should know how to soothe their bad emotion and make a situation better to ourselves, and themselves. So, I prepared a blog post about how to adjust their feelings.

Design Your Questions

The blog post I want to introduce is “As a Consultant, How Not to Reach Out to Your Client” by Tijs Besieux. In this post, he talked about what is the better approach to their client as a consultant with his mentor, Esther. He thought a simple question ‘How’s the business?’ is not a bad question to ask, but his mentor said that one is actually a horrible question. Why does she think that? Her reason was a lack of preparation. She said you should prepare for speakers and design questions that trigger your client based on the information. I agree with her opinion. Even if we are not a professional consultant, we can apply her strategy in our daily life. When one of your friends or family’s mood is not good and they try to consult with you, it would be really bad if you make the thing worse. You should listen and interpret their story with empathy, and then design your question that can make them feel better or trigger thought and action.With this method, we can manage their emotion in a good way.

Be their own consultant

I would also embrace the advice in the blog post. I would practice making proper questions when I listen to others and try to minimize their uncomfortable feelings. That would be a good way to help to improve emotional intelligence.
