How do You Obtain Peace?
Do meditation and spirituality help?
According to Google, peace is “freedom from disturbance” and “a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.”
If that’s the definition of peace, then I’m in trouble because my mind is disturbed (mental health-wise), and I am at war with my body (chronic illnesses) daily.
Disturbance and war are here to stay.
How can I achieve peace, then? Meditation? Spirituality?
I’m not very good at meditating because rapid thoughts constantly clog my brain. It’s so tiring to try to meditate! Writing with the noise-cancelling earbuds on, what I’m doing right now, is the closest I can get to meditating via mindfulness.
Spirituality? Yes, I used to have peace in Jesus. I took up Jesus as a counsellor who could listen to my problems — unburdening my soul. He wasn’t very good at talking back, but I kept reading the Bible to find his wisdom, something I could benefit from.
I lost that peace when my mental health deteriorated a few months ago. Those who have followed me for a long time know well how down I was. I used to post very dark drawings, remember?
Regaining that beautiful peace is taking me longer than I thought (I blame it on the deconstruction process). But I want it back.
Maybe, only maybe, the new medication that helps to tone down my anxiety and agoraphobia, plus the reward of losing some weight, will help set a solid base upon which I can build some peace.
What about you? Do you have peace? How did you obtain it?
