The Bible Explains Itself
Stitching beautiful concepts together
One of the many benefits of the customary reading of the Bible is that you become familiar with the bigger picture. You can add context and explain complex concepts with other verses found in different Bible books.
Take this verse, for example: “The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.” (Psalms 103:19 NLT) If taken out of context, it could sound authoritative and removed from daily life. But you add the knowledge acquired by reading the Bible, and then the same verse changes the tone.
We’ll do it with Isaiah 57:15. Here goes: “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”
So yes, God has made the heavens his throne, but he also is with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. And how does he rule over everything? Well, Isaiah tells us that he restores the crushed spirit of the humble and revives the courage of those with repentant hearts.
There you have it. Now it is your turn. Read the Bible regularly, even if it is one verse a day, and you’ll see how you can stitch together beautiful truths.
