The 3rd of January means for many people time to come back to work, wrap up the Christmas season and go back to real life.

After some days with family and friends, getting stuffed with all kinds of food and probably drinking indecent amounts of alcohol, suddenly reality hits and we realize we have a life and responsibilities to go back to.

But don’t panic, these are 7 reasons why I believe coming back from Christmas holidays is actually not that bad:

1) Feeling refreshed

Believe it or not, after some days off giving your mind some space helps with being more focused. Your brain sharpens when you don’t use it that much so when you are back to work you see how things get done faster and smarter.

2) Looking at things with perspective

Following the above, if you are able to really disconnect when you are on holidays, coming back will actually make you see things with perspective. If you had some unanswered questions, this is the time to see the answer clearly in front of you.

3) You actually have another 365 days to make things right

If last year was not the best and you are constantly thinking about «what if…» use this new year to actually get shit done. Turn the page of another chapter, forget the mistakes and start looking ahead!

4) Being back at your own home

If you love your place as much as I love mine, coming back from holidays to your home is one of the best feelings. Going back to sleep in your bed, being able to walk naked if you please, eat when you want what you want, sing in the shower, etc. Especially if you’ve been staying with family these holidays, this feeling of freedom when you go back grows exponentially.

5) It is again acceptable to be anti-social

With all the festivities and parties you probably didn’t have much time for yourself. Even if you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or just have some days off work, we all are dragged into meeting that auntie you see once a year or those old friends from high school. I love being back and finally turning off all the WhatsApp notifications.

6) Meeting friends and colleagues that you actually missed

Even if it is OK again to be anti-social, you are also free again to meet the people you really want to meet and the people you missed while away. Even that colleague that talks too much. It just feels great to be back in your comfort zone.

7) Keep good memories, share great stories

And in the end this is the beauty of travel and being away: not only to enjoy the journey but also to come back full of stories to tell and memories to keep forever.
