Emphatically Me

A Poem

Self-Inflicted Thirst

Photo by Silas Baisch on Unsplash

In time of rest I cannot find quiet
from my mind’s questions and torments

I want to sleep at ease but life invades
shatters rest needed
needed like water to the tongue
on a person walking in terrible heat,
the sun beating down, scorching life within
