Imperfection

Imperfection is beautiful.

People are attracted to the flaws and imperfections of others. It is the very essence of what makes us human. When something is too perfect, too beautiful, or too flawless... it lacks a soul. Striving for perfection actually causes more focus on imperfections and can lead to the perception of being unable to meet the world’s expectations. We connect and relate with other people because we see reflections of ourselves in each other.

This theory applies to physical and virtual goods just as it does to human beings. Apple products have won the hearts of millions but they are not without flaws. Products like the iPhone have created a deep connection to the human experience. Despite Apple's stubborn unwillingness to add Gmail and Gchat, I have let the iPhone become a part of my life more so than I’ve ever let anything or even anyone.

Nothing is perfect.

Nothing's perfect, the world's not perfect. But it's there for us, trying the best it can; that's what makes it so damn beautiful.

I was going to say something inspirational here, but instead I’m going to leave it open ended. Think about the people and things you care about most in your life and why you like spending time with them. Life is a constant mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. In the end, it’s the shared human experiences that matter. Find someone you care about and give them a hug, they’re worth it—you’re worth it.

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

— Marilyn Monroe
