– As one of the ten most innovative solutions in Europe on Challenging Plastic Waste! Thank you all for your vote! We are proud to be in the final of The European Social Innovation Competition, run by the European Commission to challenge plastic waste!

Empower is the only Nordic company left among the top 10 finalists from a total of 543 applicants from across 42 different European countries this year. We have proven that our solution of building a digital infrastructure powered by blockchain technology to incentivize collections and tracking of plastic waste is a solid and worthy a shot at the 50.000 Euro prize!

The European Social Innovation Competition (EUSIC), launched in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos, is a competition run by the European Commission open to applicants from EU member states and countries associated to Horizon 2020. The aim of the EUSIC, is to stimulate the potential of social innovation to provide solutions to social challenges and to foster sustainable and inclusive growth in Europe. This year the topic is “Challenging Plastic Waste”, were they are looking for the best ideas and projects that reduce plastic waste through changing and improving existing processes or through introducing brand new products or initiatives. The criteria of the EUSIC judging, includes the degree of innovation, impact, sustainability and potential for scaling. Solutions should, among others, target change at the systemic level, either locally, nationally or Europe wide. As a part of the 30 semi-finalists, with the most promising ideas, we had a busy summer with EUSIC. We got a wonderful series of coaching including an intensive 3-day training academy in Turin (Italy) with social innovation experts. We have come a long way, along with all other semi-finalists and now the small group of ten finalists.

We are looking forward to showcase how Empower is making a real impact to reduce and reuse plastic and how we shape and facilitate for a sustainable circular economy!
