You have probably heard the terrifying vision — by 2050 there may be more plastic in our oceans than fish. Already now there is likely 300 million tons of plastic in our oceans. This kind of plastic pollution threatens the marine ecosystems, food safety, health, coastal communities, and contributes to climate change. Therefore collecting, recycling and reusing plastic products, with innovations to develop new sustainable products, are necessary to reduce plastic pollution. When considering plastic waste collection, not many countries have sufficient waste infrastructure.

Plastic Credits are one solution for this pressing challenge. With Empower, one Plastic Credit equals one kilogram of plastic waste collected from nature and recycled. Our good friends in WWF define a plastic credit as a “transferable unit representing a specific quantity of plastic that has been collected and possibly recycled from the environment.”

Story behind every Plastic Credit with blockchain enabled tracking

Empower does not support polluting plastic in one place to allow it being cleaned up elsewhere. The focus is on real traceable impact and encouraging everyone to cut their waste streams. Our goal is to make an environmental and social impact by cleaning up the world while fighting poverty and providing a wage to those in need.

Each Plastic Credit cleans up the existing plastic waste and brings recycling aids to areas in need. To make a real impact on the ground, transparent digital solutions can help. With blockchain we verify the source and collection of plastic waste for each Plastic Credit. More than 60 plastic clean up organizations so far are on board with each collection tracked and verified. Hence, for each Plastic Credit we are able to provide data and photos from the clean ups — it is transparent and traceable information!

Transparent costs — How much does one Plastic Credit cost?

By going Plastic Positive you help to clean nature up with 0.4 USD per Plastic Credit equaling 1 kilogram of plastic waste collected while ensuring the social impact. This means that 1 US dollar cleans up 2.5 kg of plastic waste. It is the amount of 200 PET bottles — one of the most common plastic waste types in the world!
