Stuff I Came Across When I Was Trying To Spend Money — #1
Stuff I Came Across When I Was Trying To Spend Money is emptycart’s new occasional series. In it, we share several UX-related things we stumbled upon during our online shopping endeavours. We’ll also let you know if we actually bought anything.
Things I tried to spend money on this week: a sheet pan and a drill*
Time spent trying to spend money: 2 hours
Was any actual money spent this week?: yes, I’m 1 for 2 — proof below!
Stuff I came across: ads, deep-fryers, Vogue, single moms, grammar fails
*what can I say, I’m a girl of many hobbies
#1: Ads on ads on ads.
I love the expression ‘above the fold’ because of its old-timey newspaper feel. In the case of sheet pans, ads! ads! ads! are today’s breaking news on Amazon.
#2: Drills & Deep-Fryers (new name for my band).
Here’s a bit of useful information when you’re looking for a drill on leading Dutch e-commerce player Bol.com: “The power in watts indicates the amount of energy the deep-fryer supplies. In general, the higher the wattage, the faster the deep-fryer will reach the desired temperature.”
#3: That’s hot.
Since the text references “wonderful beauty products such as deodorants”, I’m pretty sure this Vogue-branded sheet pan represents a third-party syndication issue. But hey, maybe the cosmetics company is branching out.
#4: This rather specific targeting by a drill seller.
#5: Content syndication fails with a side of grammar fuckups.
“These raspberry color Seaside plates are designed by Barbara Eigen for Zak!Designs. The plates is not just useful for salads and…”
The result: 1 for 2!
