How To…

Close your eyes. Say a small prayer

in your head, your heart. Send it

off with hopes that your blessings will

soon be felt. Think about nothing

and everything until it transforms to

blankness or white noise before you hear

no voices and the voices

of dreaming. Don’t feel your eyes twitch

or taste dinner at the back of your throat. The last

thing you wanna think about is what it means

to be awake when you desire rest.

Don’t count sheep. They lied about that shit. Read

a really deep book, perhaps some anthropological

theory. That collects dust in the corner

cause you can’t bear the lies

of “ethnographic discovery.” Refuse discovery too

until you groggily amuse yourself

with what you thought you needed

to rest. It was a lie. Sleep

or rest.
