It’s Fénix in Nogales…

The flaming wings and phoenix imagery pointed to what was next: a new classic Regional Mexican station, Fénix 89.1 FM, in Nogales. The revamp of Grupo Fórmula’s XHEHF-FM became official today, promising listeners “the musical hug of your memories”.

It surprises me, personally, that a company as large as Grupo Fórmula went for AI imagery for some of the pre-launch items.

…and La Lupe in Coatza

On the other side of the country, a major broadcaster struck an affiliation agreement, and now XHAFA-FM Nanchital–Coatzacoalcos is a La Lupe station. (Not that Multimedios Radio’s webmasters seem to know the call sign!)

Nuevo León State Network Director Put on Leave

Osvaldo Antonio Robles López, the director general of Radio y Televisión de Nuevo León, has been put on administrative leave and barred from leaving the country as part of a criminal case.

Reports indicate that a shell advertising company, Telerma, received a 20-million-peso contract, from the agency. Telerma’s president was a housewife and ice cream seller. Others have been charged in the case from the Water and Drainage Administration and the Secretariat of Administration.

Former Hidalgo State Network Director Sentenced

Sergio Islas Olvera, the former director of Radio y Televisión de Hidalgo from 2012 to 2015, has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for his involvement in the scam known as La Estafa Maestra.

RTVH received money for public awareness campaigns from federal agencies and then subcontracted the work to two companies and a person. The state network lost 242 million pesos.

More AM Allotments

Five new AM assignments, apparently earmarked for new commercial service, have paraded past the FCC:

  • XECCGA-AM 1490 Atenango del Río, Gro.
  • XECCGH-AM 1570 Huitzuco, Gro.
  • XECCGZ-AM 1360 Zihuatanejo, Gro.
  • XECCCA-AM 1330 Calpulalpan, Tlax.
  • XECCCM-AM 980 Compostela, Nay.
