Emergent to showcase AI Digital Risk Management platform in the Security and Privacy category

Washington, DC — January 18, 2017 — Emergent’s Instinct Engine™ — a swarming artificial intelligence Digital Risk Platform — was selected as a finalist in the Security and Privacy category for the ninth annual SXSW Accelerator competition. The accelerator is the marquee event of South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference and Festivals (March 10–19, 2017) Startup Village®, where leading startups from around the world showcase some of the most impressive new tech innovations to a panel of hand-picked judges and a live audience. Out of the more than 500 companies who applied to present at SXSW Accelerator, Emergent was selected out of 50 finalists in ten different categories.

The two-day event will be held the first weekend of SXSW Conference and Festivals, Saturday, March 11 through Sunday, March 12, on the third floor of the Downtown Austin Hilton. The pitch competition will then culminate with the SXSW Accelerator Awards Ceremony on Sunday evening, March 12, where winning startups from each category will be announced and honored. The Accelerator competition will feature finalists across the following ten categories: Augmented and Virtual Reality, Enterprise and Smart Data, Entertainment and Content, Health and Wearables, Innovative World, Payment and FinTech, Security and Privacy, Social and Culture, Sports, and Transportation.

Emergent will present alongside five other companies in the Security and Privacy session at 12:30pm on March 12.

“We are excited to be selected as a cybersecurity finalist in the SXSW accelerator,” said Emergent co-founder and CEO Earl Crane. “SXSW is at the forefront of innovation and communication.”

Emergent’s Instinct Engine™ allows companies to get ahead of hackers by predicting where they are most likely to be attacked tomorrow. Using advanced machine learning and emergent AI risk algorithms, it explores hundreds of thousands of loss scenarios to identify the cyber intrusions that could create the biggest impacts.

“Executives frequently share with me the things that keep them up at night,” said Crane, “‘Are we doing everything we should?’ and ‘What are we missing?’ With our solution, executives can see around the corner, identify and clearly communicate how much risk they are taking.” Crane added, “This allows them to put defenses in place to guard against tomorrow’s attack today.”
“SXSW Accelerator has hosted some of the most innovative startups over the eight years we’ve held our competition. These companies have gone on to capture the attention of investors and leading technology companies worldwide. 71 percent have received funding in excess of $3.1 billion, while 14 percent were acquired,” said SXSW Accelerator Event Producer Chris Valentine. “Out of the hundreds of applicants, we have identified 50 finalists to present. Everyone with SXSW Accelerator is proud to support startups that are on the forefront of solving some of today’s biggest challenges through technology.”

About Emergent and the Instinct Engine™

Emergent Network Defense, Inc. provides a Digital Risk Management solution to “secure what matters” by identifying, measuring, and distributing cyber risk ownership throughout the enterprise.

The Instinct Engine™ uses a biological ant-based swarming approach to identify the most likely attack paths to a company’s greatest risks — those that cause the most damage — so they can reduce risk before an incident happens. It enables business owners to understand the amount of cyber risk to which they are exposed and for which they are responsible in a dollar-based impact amount. This enables the Chief Information Security Officer or Chief Risk Officer to act quickly; reducing cyber risk exposure. It also answers new regulatory requirements for an executive board-established and monitored cyber risk appetite.
