The Quietest Revolution: ETK and the EV

Envision a bustling metropolis, but with a sonic twist: Vehicles and machinery serenely go about their business, engines whirring quietly, forsaking the polluting fossil fuels of yesteryear.

It seems like a far-flung futuristic idea. But it’s happening right now. Look to Shenzhen, China, for a fascinating example. Shenzhen is a megacity of 20 million that enjoys a growing fleet of electric busses, trains, taxis, scooters, and dump trucks, mostly manufactured by BYD Co. The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing company is helping the city move away from gas-powered vehicles, first having replaced the city’s bus fleet entirely with electric vehicles, and now working at doing the same for city taxis and trucks. BYD, now larger than Tesla, is supported with subsidies from the Chinese government, recognising the economic and environmental need to move away from fossil fuel dependence.

BYD has a lofty goal — to electrify China’s entire fleet of vehicles — by 2030.

In the UK, Dyson has recently announced its intentions to ramp up production of electric vehicles, with the ultimate goal of establishing itself as yet another rival to Tesla. Dyson is putting money where their mouth is with an investment of £200 million for EV testing facilities in Wiltshire, England. With the increased efforts in testing, Dyson aims to develop an electric vehicle to be ready for road testing by 2020.

For many consumers around the world, the next vehicle they buy might be electric. Combine this with the rapid transition to EV technology among urban fleets of busses and other commuter and service vehicles in many urban centers. Within a matter of just a few years, much of the world’s automotives may be propelled by electricity.

This is not a distant future. It’s just around the corner.

The movement toward the electrification of the world’s vehicles is approaching rapidly, and it’s being taken very seriously by governments and businesses around the world. At Energi Mine, we also take this movement very seriously. This is a tremendous opportunity to bring about significant positive change in the way everyone moves and consumes energy.

Our goal is for EnergiToken to be an important and active tool in this global transformation. By encouraging and incentivising renewable energy choices, the EnergiToken project will play a key role in making this change happen in a way that benefits consumers and reduces the need for punitive measures such as taxes or fees.
