“The energy industry is undergoing a rapid transformation. We are responding to the new trends that are shaping the industry and responding to the changing needs of our customers, both large and small.” — Jorge Pikunic, Managing Director, Distributed Energy and Power at Centrica

The energy industry is a big and growing industry that contains all of the industries involved in the production and sale of energy. That includes: manufacturing, refining, extraction, and distribution. Having in mind that the modern society consumes a huge amount of energy, the energy industry is very important almost everywhere in the world.

In its entirety, the energy industry contains:

-electrical power industry;

-gas industry;

-petroleum industry;

-coal industry;

-renewable energy industry;

-coal industry.

We rarely think about how much the energy industry is important to us and what we will do without it. Lights go on and off, we pay bills, and we carry on doing everything connected with energy without considering “This is great!”. But, the energy gives us light, powers our electronic devices, makes it possible to watch all these shows, etc. At work, people depend on energy because it powers the machines that manufacture the services or goods we work with.

Every product that we use takes energy to work — from automobiles to food, buildings, appliances, etc. The global primary energy demand has risen by 50% since 1990. By 2035, the energy demand will probably be much higher than now. The world needs more energy, and we have to be aware of this.

No industry has the bigger impact in the world than the oil and gas industry. It provides us with light, mobility, heat, and it makes our lives better — it enables us to travel, study in the evenings, use our smartphones and PCs, etc. And all of this is a part of the energy industry.

The energy is rapidly growing and has become one of the most important things for us to have a normal life. That’s why it is important to know how it works and what happens “behind the scenes” in the energy industry.

The use of energy is a key in the human society to develop itself and to adapt to the environment. The production and consumption of energy resources are one of the main factors for the global economy. The energy sector is driven by the supply and demand for worldwide energy.

So, how does the energy industry work?

The first thing you have to know is that there is not only one company involved in some energy branch — there are multiple companies that work in this area. For example, in the electricity supply industry, there are more companies that generate the electricity, its supply and consumption.

The energy industry is a regulated market as well, which means that the government has also a role there. For instance, the government controls what company can enter this industry or what they can charge. Private companies can also participate in the energy industry.

Approximately everywhere in the world, the energy industry is composed of three key elements: generation, networks, and retail. Firstly, there are generators who produce energy through generation transporting gas. After that, the network transports the energy to your homes, and this has several stages. In the end, the final stage of this process is retail, that is, selling energy to consumers.

The electricity for example, is generated at large power stations that are linked to the national networks. Electricity can also be generated in smaller power stations that are linked to the regional networks. There are two types of electricity network — transmission and distribution. Transmission network is used for electricity supply around the country. Distribution network is used for electricity supply system into homes or businesses.

As we already know, suppliers can buy energy from the energy market and they can sell it to the consumers. Suppliers work in the energy market and consumers are able to choose which supplier will provide them with energy.

We are joining in the energy industry having in mind that the electricity is a key factor for us to have good life and that it is one of the biggest parts there. We have developed a place where you can save money on your electricity bills while reducing your costs:
