A Simple Guide to Finding Liverpool Fans on the Internet

Are you a supporter of the reigning and defending Premier League Champions and one of the most decorated football clubs on the planet?

If you answered “Yes!” and are interested in becoming a part of internet communities where you can discuss all things Liverpool-related with thousands of other passionate Kopites, then you are right where you need to be.

The Size and Scope of the Liverpool Community

The internet is a fantastic place for Kopites because the Liverpool community is among the largest and most active football fan groups. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United fan groups also have a large online presence. The Liverpool community is present on the most popular social media platforms and on several independent websites dedicated to forums, discussions, and message boards. Overall, the community is decentralized and spread out: there is not just one place where all the action is at. However, there are a few websites in which there is more activity compared to others.

The websites that are at the busier end of the spectrum are r/Liverpool FC on Reddit, the groups “We are Liverpool This Means More” and “The Liverpool Family” on Facebook, and a Liverpool forums site titled redandwhitekop.com. On sites such as Instagram and Twitter, there are many Liverpool Fan accounts followed by thousands of people, which are dedicated to showing team selection, breaking news, interviews, pictures of players, and much more. However, these accounts do not fit the category of being an online community because only a few people have control over the account and the content that is posted on it.

A Deeper Dive into r/Liverpool FC

Although all of the groups that were mentioned are fantastic communities to become a part of, the Liverpool FC subreddit is my favorite among the choices. One of the main reasons I find the page very fascinating is because of how complete it is. There are many threads to choose from and so much variety in terms of the posts that users create, which results in hundreds of discussions occurring simultaneously about every aspect of Liverpool that you can think of. The main threads are the Pre-match thread, the Match Thread, the Post Match Thread, and the You’ll Never Wildly Speculate Alone (YNWSA) thread. Outside the main threads, the users post almost anything. For example, you will find Liverpool-related memes, informative maps and tables, opinions on what other sports pundits have said, discussions on how to fix problems within the squad, etc…

Relevant Statistics on r/Liverpool FC

The subreddit has been running since September 29, 2008, and is approaching 300,000 total followers. As a result, r/Liverpool is currently the most followed football club on Reddit. The closest competitor to them in terms of total members is r/RedDevils, but the Red Devils still need a few more thousand members to surpass the Kopites.

The Liverpool subreddit averages a whopping 1,000–2000 users at any given moment. Although, on match days this number can go up to 10,000! Furthermore, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact number of posts that are made per day since the page does not provide that information. However, if one were to just scroll through the site, they would see that most of the posts and comments are made from a very few minutes, hours, or days ago, which illustrates the consistently high activity levels on there.

Beyond Just Football

I believe that there is something more that seems to connect the Kopites on the r/Liverpool FC page besides just their passion for discussing Liverpool news. I think what truly unifies these supporters is their shared belief in the fundamental idea that “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (YNWA). The message behind YNWA is that no matter how difficult things get, whether it is on the field or off, you must continue moving forward because there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
