Why Sneakerheads Unite is here to stay

--

SneakerHeads Unite has more ways to interact with other people then most communities, I assume that this is why this community is still alive and functioning. Why would you join a boring community that doesn’t have any enthusiasm about what they are talking about? The Sneakerheads Unite community is far more than just a group of people who post about sneakers. It is more than just a group of people posting their collections, it is more of a creative space to post memes, news, customs, ask questions, and more. There is no excuse to feel left out or say you do not belong here.

A safe place

Individuals of this community are able to experience being in a community that is just like them, a safe place. They are able to freely express themselves and post whatever they want because this community really has no limit of what you can post. It is also a learning experience. Individuals start to learn how to better communicate with their people and learn about how others perceive shoes. It is very important that when you’re a part of a community you are learning how it runs and where you fit in. You start opening up to people in the same space as you because you and those people are there for the same reason. Brandon_4402 posted a picture of Jordans that his cousin got him for his birthday. Straight to the comments I go, I picked up on a connection with Brandon and another follower. VJ_Light26 commented “Great cousin” and Brandon responded back with, “Ye he’s a good dude went through some stuff got back on track and is out there gettin bread” and VJ responded back with “That’s beautiful”. Brandon_4402 did not have to talk about his personal life with this person that he does not know, sharing it to the public for that matter. This shows that this community is a safe place to talk to other people who are on Reddit for the same reason. Individuals of this community get out a learning experience, a safe and creative space, and enjoy seeing other people post what they like to see. What can go wrong?

Commitment

From my research, on Tuesday April 6th the community had 1,921,687 Sneakerheads/followers. Now today they stand at a whopping 1,927,001 Sneakerheads, almost 6,000 new members in five days. This idea of growth proves that this community is doing something right. It is growing as a community and I do not see it going anywhere. This level of commitment from the individuals of this community are benefiting the Sneakerheads Unite in general. It is boosting the followers which means more people are seeing what they have to offer.

Internet II

If we go back to this idea of informal writing/tone, it is easier for people to communicate comfortably with one another. People of the Sneakerheads Unite community do not talk to each other like they are college professors. Formal tone sounds something like “Oh, those shoes are so exquisite, I must have them at once.” Informal one would say “Those shoes are dope, I need to cop a pair.” See the difference? Pulling from Because Internet, “Across languages, short words tend to be more common words, which contribute a small amount of information to a sentence, while longer words occur less frequently and contribute more information” (McCulloch 8). Short words like “dope” and “cop” are more appealing and require less thought than words like “exquisite”. You can’t beat a community who has informal language and a safe place to communicate with others like you.
