In the vice article it is explained on how essential the rise of eSports came into effect through the playing of the Street Fighter game series. It talks about how with any competitive game you will get complaints on the games lag or something along those lines even from the professionals. Street Fighter tournaments were held early on in “underground tournaments that only certain people knew about but the game industry is shifting to more organized tournaments as of late. “For a pro player like Fuentes, it has less to do with a governing body — he just wants to enjoy a sustainable career. Like Chen, Fuentes wants to see more major events like the Capcom Cup.” Fuentes wants to see more tournaments like th Capcom cup held so he can make a career based on his earning from video games as such. He then explains how the game has a sense of “ghetto” to in it because of how the players often played games like Street Fighter in situations like he explained in his childhood Laundromat story. “Who wants it more? That was the real question, whether discussing upsets, tournament prospects, homegrown aspirations and controllers. Street Fighter’s legacy was built by those who wanted it more. The passion of the community sprouted from the dark corners of arcades and laundromats, kids sitting at home grinding match-ups to beat their friends at the next meet-up.” In many ways it was ideas like this one that shaped eSports into what it is today. Little tournaments were held to see who the better player was at a particular game until they realized that people were genuinely intrigued by what was going on and wanted to make it more legitimate.

In the article about eSports from The Guardian about how if you haven’t been around for a while that sports have not changed but with the new digital revolution we have a new realm if you will in the meaning of sport. With eSports on the rise it has given sport a whole new outlook in the digital world. They explain the types of games played in this eSports world. “ESports consist of a variety of video games, for which you need nimble fingers and a fast brain to succeed. Just as with traditional sports, fans follow teams, watch matches and even attend cup finals, cheering on their favorite stars from around the world. Mathews founded Fnatic 13 years ago, with financial support from his mother, and has built it into one of the world’s most successful teams, competing in more than 600 tournaments globally, in games such as Counter-Strike, Dota2, Call Of Duty, Overwatch and League of Legends. “ it seems crazy to me that people can actually make a living playing video games but honestly I have heard of worse ways that people are able to make a career. This is fairly new but has tremendous growth and could be something we even see on TV some day as it become more popular by day. People right now often stream professional eSports players online on various websites and are putting up tremendous numbers of followers in the process. In the near future, this new pasture in the digital world could potentially be something we watch on TV alongside professional sports if the growth continues to grow as it has. This could be the future of a new type of entertainment.
