It was interesting here about this well known psychologist talk about the black and white version of work and depression. Making very valid points of how working and in the moment of playing, drives the self confidence, positive emotions, and the increase in energy and the exact opposite of this is depression. Where a person will lack all of the previously listed details, it was clear he was being black and white with his definitions as there are always the outliers that people lacking depression may not display all the positive and constructive things that are happening while a person is in the moment of playing, and someone with depression may be able to show these characteristics without actually meaning them. As someone who does not suffer from the mental illness of depression there are definitely times that I may just be relaxing on the couch, laying down expressing little to no emotion and still very much enjoying my time. It was interesting to see a different interpretation of how people might be seeing these emotions in play. Seeing as this man did most of his research before majority of modern day technology and even the spike in overall video games had finally begun, the man still set up a great base line that current scientists will be able to build from and continue to make strides towards improving society. As it discussed within the article, as people play video games and are completely neurologically involved, even when failing within the actual game players are still wanting to play just one round or one more level to achieve new goals and better them selves which in turn is a powerful tool for improving brain functions and its overall abilities.

Mental illnesses are not joke and in fact are one of the most common illnesses across the world, yet it is one of the lest discussed and talking about it during conversations isn’t always as accepted as it really should be. There aren’t always obvious symptoms of someone suffering from a mental illness and majority of the time there is absolutely no sign of mental illness as people will hide their true feelings of fear of discussing a topic that needs to become more accepted in modern society. Within video games it is seen all the time that main characters or the villains within games are suffering from some type of mental illness. It may create a good story or an interesting character, but it is also creating a new stigma surrounding the diseases that might even shine a bad light on it. The only way to prevent or to help fix these problems is to simply raise awareness. The more people willing to talk about this and discuss their true feelings we as a society will be able to create a living environment beneficial to everyone.
