A Spooky Light in the Sky
Does it make me believe in UFOs?

I’m shooting down the interstate through the dark night in my black Trans Am, my partner in the seat next to me.
Exit 63 is coming up. I speed down the ramp, whip across the narrow bridge. Ramrod straight, the road climbs steeply from there— leading us away from the flatlands.
I desperately want to get out of these clothes and crawl into my warm waterbed, I’m so tired.
That’s when we see the light for the first time.
“What is that? Is that the moon?” But it’s not in the right spot — too small, too still — hovering just above the black tree line that crests the plateau we are fast approaching. The vibe in the dark compartment turns quiet, a little tense.
Awake now with curiosity, I roar up the empty road, crowded by dense pine woods, towards the hamlet outside which we live, in a neighborhood — if you can call it that — without streetlights. The odd glow is now to our left.
I turn left at the grocery store, up the dark and narrow, deserted country road, all the while keeping an eye on the bright spot that is above and ahead of us again. We’re getting closer, and my nervous excitement grows. What will we find?
