I wrote about my time eating government-issued MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) when I was in the Navy.

In Part I — I discussed my past experience with MREs, how it was suggested that they had improved since my days in a combat zone, and some say they taste great today.

And I shared how I came to have some MREs in the first place.

I still had my doubts, but I thought it would be fun to compare the MREs of today to what I remembered about MREs from the 1960s and 1970s.

I also thought it would be fun to prepare a dinner with MREs for my wife, who has never tried one but heard me talking about them back in the day.

Would she be game to eat what the troops in the field eat?

Place your bets.

I decided to use the Macaroni in Tomato Sauce MRE, which is menu number twelve.
