Brother Steve and I traveled the world for 7–1/2 years, beginning in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico in April 2012.

His photographs embellish every travel story I write.

I have neglected to show you some things along the way.

I’m making up for that now.

The day started with revolution.

That’s what we thought.

First, we woke to several ear-splitting loudspeakers proclaiming a coup d’état in Ciudad de Mérida.

That’s what we heard.

Bursting from our apartment, we were greeted by hundreds (if not thousands) of people marching in the streets — with armed state and federal police and soldiers watching warily from the sidelines.

In truth, something we eventually came to understand, this was simply a Labor Union demonstration/celebration. A mandatory parade, where each participant had to be checked off a clipboard before wearing an official Union T-shirt.
