Introduction: Even though this took place before Christmas, I consider it a Christmas miracle that I will never forget. This story is dedicated to two people who made a difference.

Soft fur pressed against my face and soaked up the tears pouring down my cheeks.

“I’m sorry, Sunny. I’m so sorry,” I sobbed. “I’m so sorry I brought you into my life, and now I can’t take care of you. You deserved better. I’m so sorry.”

Sunny just sat there, letting me hold onto him as if for dear life. I think, somewhere in his young dog brain, he knew I needed it, that I was just trying to survive.

Less than 24 hours before, the week before Thanksgiving, I had been told I had four days to vacate my home. I didn’t have enough income to get a new place, and I had just given almost all my savings to the very person who was kicking me out of my home.

How could I have been so stupid? How could I have not seen the signs staring me in the face all along of what kind of person they were?

And most importantly…What was I going to do?

I rented a unit, got a U-Haul, and moved everything into storage by myself. I had just bought a car, so I knew I could live and work out of that. But my…
