Why Being Too Hard On Yourself Can Be A Good Thing

What it teaches you about you

Do you ever feel like you’re not ‘doing enough’?

Legend Kobe Bryant once said, “rest at the end, not in the middle”. And a little voice within me ate that shit up — “See, you’re not that serious then! You need to be obsessed with your craft to achieve greatness!”

How often do you wanna tell that voice to go to hell?

If you’re like me, that voice stirs up guilt, shame, self judgement. And when I feel bad about myself, it’s hard to find the inspiration to do the work.

I’ve since discovered how my inner voice being hard on me could actually be a good thing. She might be a tactless bitch, but sometimes she’s a wise bitch.

The One With No Manners

My inner critic loves to use my flaws and fears as weapons to show me how I’m not good enough.

She likes to tell me “you don’t work hard enough so you don’t deserve success”. Instead of relaxing, “someone else [insert role model here] would use this time to be productive,” so I must not be that serious.

Think of your critic like that one friend who’s super ‘direct’ — she means well… she’s just seriously lacking in etiquette.
