Engaged Journalism Exchange: Beyond the 2020 Election

Our most recent Engaged Journalism Exchange focused on engaged journalism efforts during the 2020 election, as well as how to make election coverage more engaged going forward.

Watch the video recording of the event here.

In this session, held last Thursday, attendees reflected on lessons learned from efforts to use engaged journalism practices in connection to 2020 election coverage. Bridget Thoreson (Engagement Strategist & Election SOS Director, Hearken) shared her experience collaborating with researchers on the Citizen Agenda project and the resulting Elections SOS project that seeks to help journalists in responding to election information needs. And Sue Robinson (Professor, University of Wisconsin) reflected on leading research efforts for the Citizen Agenda project, and how she adapted the project for journalism schools by creating engagement modules that were shared with instructors around the U.S., and creating a project in collaboration with a local news organization and the Local Voices Network.
