A Swift-ier Tink for iOS
Since Tink’s inception in 2013 our iOS app had been built on top of Xamarin. Over that time it had tens of contributors and had significantly evolved as Tink grew. Like any project, we accumulated our fair share of technical debt along the way, eventually outgrew the number of features we had to support and delivered a user experience that we felt was subpar. Late last year we set out to rewrite the Tink iOS app from the ground up in Swift.
We took this opportunity to fix many of these issues and build an app architecture with a solid foundation that would serve us well into the future. Besides, Tink as a company recently underwent an exciting rebranding process and this was a great opportunity to introduce it to our users along with a brand new app.
Over the next weeks you will hear from some of our engineers & designers about the lessons we learned during this process. We plan to cover a wide range of topics — from our app architecutre, data streaming network layer, design systems to some of the fun animations and controls we built. We will also open source some of the components that now power the brand new version of Tink.
The new version of Tink has been live on the AppStore for a couple of months now and we would be excited if you could try it out and let us know what you think. If you enjoy making well rounded & polished apps — we are always looking for more great people to join us.
I would specifically like to thank our fantastic team of iOS engineers who worked really hard on this: Jonatan, David, Simon and Kasper; the amazing Tink design team of Henrik & Robin and of course the rest of Tink organization for making this project a success.👏
