The Brands that won the Presidential Debate

Who won the debate? With the debaters it’s early to call, partly also because the candidates are being held to completely different standards. But I’m talking about brands here, and with brands the winner is a lot clearer.

Amassing an estimated audience of 100 million, tonight’s presidential debate was rivaling Super Bowl. With that amount of interest, some brands got smart and prepped for the opportunity. Here’s my Top 5 from yesterday:

5. Ford

Having been in The Donald’s sights before, it would’ve been a surprise for Ford not to show up during the debate. But their response to Trump’s allegations, according to which Ford were taking “all their jobs out of America”, still warrants a mention in its simplicity and decisiveness.

4. Tecate

The Mexican beer brand did a humorous take on a debate issue, using Trump’s own rhetoric for a satiric take on “The Wall”. Tecate’s Beer Wall is a lot more fun though, and “while it might be small, it’s going to be huuuge”. Now that’s something I could get behind, on either side.

3. Jeep

Did I say car brands were prowling the market this week? Jeep’s take was heartfelt, emotional, and in my opinion rather effective. Reminding the American people that “what unites us is stronger than what divides us” is spot on in this time of polarization and bigotry. This is what Jeep offered.

2. Hillary Clinton

Politicians have always twisted or hidden the truth. But today there seems to be no regard for truth whatsoever. Hillary’s camp showed their digital savvy by tapping into the phenomenon, and turning hillaryclinton.com into a Trump fact-checker. This drove the night’s biggest internet traffic surge, and made Hillary Clinton the most searched candidate in all 50 states.

1. Audi

I think I did say something about car brands… The unequivocal winner tonight was Audi, with a film amazingly written and impeccably executed. I don’t want to give away the the payoff, for it would diminish its impact. But let me just say that this is quite good – and worth your time.

That’s it for tonight. If you want to chat right time marketing, or Nimbliciti in general—in NYC or on Skype—don’t hesitate to get in touch.
