For my first rhetorical analysis post, I chose the Joe Biden meme. I would say that the desired audience of this meme would be University of Delaware students and alumni, people that enjoy memes, and perhaps also those who are fans of Joe Biden and/or democrats. The purpose of the meme is to brag about the former Vice President of the United States going to the University of Delaware instead of a prestigious Ivy League school. The context of the meme is that the audience would know that Joe Biden was the former Vice President of the United States and that he did attend the University of Delaware. I would say that the ethos of the meme is unknown because memes are usually made to get a humorous response instead of an educational one, so I would guess that the credibility of the author is common sense for anyone who knows who Joe Biden is. The pathos of the meme is humor because memes, as I just previously stated, are made to appeal to a viewer’s humor. The author is using this meme to make the joke that it is cooler that Joe Biden attended the University of Delaware instead of an Ivy League school. The logos of the meme is that Joe Biden attended the University of Delaware instead of an Ivy League university. The audience, being that they are likely University of Delaware students or alumni, would be convinced that this is a cool fact since Joe Biden was the Vice President of the United States. The Kairos of this meme is appropriate since we, as the audience, are currently University of Delaware students.
